Managing Director of Boeing Africa Henok Teferra has declared that the company will open for business in October 2024.
Henok clarified in a state media interview that Ethiopia’s significant aviation sector improvements and its standing as a major hub in Africa had a role in the choice to locate Boeing’s African headquarters in Addis Ababa.
“Boeing’s African office in Addis Ababa will allow us to expand and improve our partnership with Ethiopian Airlines in a number of areas,” Henok said.
He continued by saying Ethiopia will have chances to strengthen its standing as the continent’s premier aviation hub thanks to the new office. “Boeing will work closely with Ethiopian Airlines, especially on joint aircraft component production,” he said.
Henok went into depth about how Ethiopian Airlines and Boeing have partnered strategically to produce vital airplane parts in two different industries.
“Boeing is helping Ethiopian Airlines produce insulation blankets at the Kilinto Industrial Park, and Ethiopian Airlines has been producing and supplying wire harnesses for Boeing,” he stated.
This statement comes after Boeing decided over three months ago to locate its new African headquarters in Ethiopia rather than South Africa or Kenya.
Ethiopia will now be considered a top candidate for Boeing’s African expansion plans thanks to this action.
According to Boeing’s projections, within the next 20 years, African carriers will need 1,030 new jet aircraft, with the majority of these deliveries going toward expanding current fleets.
