The Border Management Authority (BMA) and the South African Revenue Services (SARS) are set to sign a landmark Joint Action Plan with the Kingdom of Eswatini on November 6, 2024, aimed at tackling pressing issues related to border management.
Commissioner Dr. Michael Masiapato of the BMA will lead a delegation in critical talks with Eswatini officials to establish a unified vision for effective oversight and management of their shared border. The SARS delegation, headed by Customs Director Mr. Beyers Theron, is expected to play a vital role in these discussions.
The upcoming Joint Action Plan seeks to bolster existing strategies for border management through commitments to align policies and streamline procedures. It will prioritize the coordinated use of resources and the establishment of structured approaches to facilitate smoother trade and movement between the two nations.
This initiative follows a successful Joint Action Plan signed between South Africa and the Republic of Mozambique in 2023, which resulted in significant enhancements in trade facilitation. The new partnership with Eswatini is anticipated to yield similar benefits, further promoting regional cooperation and economic integration.
