Moroccan side AS FAR have been crowned champions of the African Women’s Champions League.
Defeating their opponents ASEC Mimosas 2-1, AS FAR secured the trophy for the second time in their history.
In the 13th minute, Hanane Ait El Haj converted a penalty to give AS FAR a 1-0 lead. In the 55th minute, the Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas equalised through Ami Priscal Diallo.
However, in the 85th minute, AS FAR earned another penalty and successfully scored their second goal, sealing the championship.
AS FAR had first lifted the trophy in 2022, and with this victory, they join South African club Mamelodi Sundowns as the only teams to have won the title twice.
On 14 December, AS FAR will face Chinese side Wuhan Jiangda, competing for a place in next year’s Fifa Women’s Champions Cup.
The winner of that match will meet European champions Arsenal in the semi-finals of the inaugural tournament, which will take place early next year in London.
