For Around 57,000 displaced people have arrived in the Sudanese city of Al-Debba in Northern State after fleeing attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Darfur and Kordofan, a local aid commission said Friday.
Kawther Jaafar, the government-appointed humanitarian aid commissioner in Al-Debba, said the displaced endured “harsh” conditions throughout their journey as they escaped what she described as “the brutality and violations of the rebel militia.”
She noted that many among the newly arrived displaced suffer from wounds and fractures, while children are arriving with signs of malnutrition.
According to Jaafar, 50,000 of the displaced came from El-Fasher, including 32,000 who reached Al-Debba after the city fell under RSF control.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023, has killed thousands and displaced millions across the country.
Last month, the RSF seized North Darfur’s capital El-Fasher, where it has been accused of carrying out massacres. The group now controls all five Darfur states, while the Sudanese army maintains control over most of the remaining 13 states, including the capital Khartoum.
