British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua wants to take over Watford. The 35-year-old professional boxer was born and raised in Watford and still lives there.
He is now aiming to acquire a financial stake in the club. Having earned approximately $110 million over his career as a two-time world champion, Joshua is now looking to direct his money into a serious investment.
Joshua spoke about this venture, saying,
“It’s a serious investment.”
“We wanted to move into private equity, venture capital funds. As you earn, naturally you want to save, so instead of spending recklessly, I prefer to invest in certain asset classes — and this [Watford] was an opportunity that presented itself.”
“Nothing has come of it yet. It’s a serious investment. If it works out, it’s one that should yield good results.”
“If they return to the Premier League, I’ll need to open a shop on Market Street because the traffic coming through Watford would be phenomenal.”
Joshua had previously invested in real estate but is now preparing for a larger project by investing in the Championship team.
“I’m not a huge football fan myself, but watching the fans flow down Market Street and into Vicarage Road was a great sight. If we don’t do it, good luck to them anyway because they’re a great team.”
