Manchester United’s Ivorian star winger Amad Diallo was staying at a hotel with his team as part of their post-season tour.
During this time, tensions arose between him and Malaysian fans. Amad Diallo was seen making an obscene hand gesture towards the supporters.
Manchester United stated that their player made the gesture after being subjected to “serious personal abuse” by fans in Malaysia. The young Ivorian star explained that the gesture was a reaction to severe insults about his mother, and made the following statement on X regarding the incident:
“I have respect for people but not for the one who insults my mum. I shouldn’t have reacted like that but I don’t regret what I did.”
Although Manchester United confirmed that the abuse did occur, they clarified that it was not of a racist nature.
Previously, while playing for Atalanta, Amad Diallo was involved in a human trafficking case.
In 2021, he was fined £42,000 by the Italian Football Federation following an investigation into allegations that he had entered the country using false documents and fake parents.
