Libya’s Al Ahly, the reigning Basketball Africa League (BAL) champion, secured third place at the 2025 FIBA Intercontinental Cup (ICC).
They became the first BAL champion in history to claim a bronze medal at the tournament.
In the third-place playoff, Al Ahly faced Brazil’s Flamengo and triumphed 91-82 to secure the podium finish.
Senegalese star Jean Jacques Boissy, who was named the BAL Most Valuable Player (MVP), stood out with 19 points, while Ivan Almeida added another 21 points to lead the team to victory.
With the Basketball Africa League only in its fifth edition, it is remarkable that a club crowned champion has already managed to deliver such an impressive performance on the intercontinental stage.
