Airtel Africa launched an AI-powered spam alert service six months ago.
During this period, more than 205 million spam alert messages were sent to customers, helping them stay protected from potential scammers.
Airtel Africa offers this service to all users at no additional cost. SMS messages identified as spam are marked with a “SPAM Alert” label, allowing users to recognize spam messages without needing to download extra applications.
The service has been rolled out in Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, Gabon, Congo-Brazzaville, Malawi, Madagascar, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Tanzania, Chad, and Niger. Soon, users in Seychelles will also be able to benefit from it.
Since the launch of the spam alert service, the highest number of alerts has been received by users in Kenya. Kenyans received 68 million spam alert messages, while Tanzanians received 47 million and Zambians 33 million.
After the implementation of this service, the volume of spam messages in these countries decreased by 12%. In Nigeria, this reduction reached 84%. As more people benefit from the service, a significant barrier against fraud will continue to be established.
