Airtel Africa plans to establish technology hubs in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
As part of this initiative, the company has launched a continent-wide foundation, which aims to improve the lives of 10 million people if the project reaches its goals.
The Airtel Africa Foundation (AAF), established under this initiative, is a philanthropic effort focused on financial inclusion, education, environmental protection, and digital access.
The foundation will set up community technology hubs in Nigeria and the DRC. These hubs aim to develop digital talent and support innovation in areas such as financial technology, software engineering, and entrepreneurship.
Additionally, the foundation will collaborate with Nigeria’s Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy through the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program. So far, training funding has been provided for 25,000 Nigerians, and the foundation has contributed $670,000 to the program.
Following this, AAF launched the Connecting Schools project, which provides free internet services and digital devices to underserved schools. The foundation has also awarded 100 full scholarships in Nigeria through the Airtel Africa Fellowship, covering undergraduate studies and offering mentorship and internship opportunities.
With projects like these, AAF has already become a transformative initiative, changing the lives of people across Africa.
