Nxtra by Airtel has started the construction of a 44-megawatt data center in Tatu City, located on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya.
This new data center will be the second of five hyperscale data centers that Airtel Africa plans to develop across the continent.
One of the largest data centers in East Africa, the facility will feature GPU-enabled racks, next-generation servers, 99.999% uptime, multiple fiber routes, and advanced security systems.
Similar construction projects have recently taken place in various parts of Africa.
Last month, Teraco completed the expansion of its JB4 Bredell Campus data center, located in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg.
In July, MTN Nigeria launched the first phase of the Dabengwa Sifiso Data Centre, while in April, Equinix announced plans to expand its data center in Lagos, Nigeria.
Such initiatives not only strengthen the continent’s infrastructure but also indirectly contribute to the development of various other sectors.
