Tournaments featuring professional teams competing in online games like Counter-Strike 2, FIFA, PUBG, and League of Legends are receiving increasing economic investment day by day.
Africa is no different. The continent’s e-sports market has already reached a value of $66 million.
Moreover, the growth rate in Africa is advancing six times faster than the global average. It is estimated that 350 million people play video games across the continent, with 95% of them choosing mobile games.
However, most games that fall under the e-sports category are not played on mobile devices. These competitive games require high-end PCs or consoles, as well as strong and stable internet connections.
Because of that, such games are still a luxury for a large portion of the continent.
Although e-sports in Africa are clearly growing rapidly, the race remains unequal.
The players are ready, the audience is growing — but the technological infrastructure still needs to catch up.
