The United Arab Emirates-based space technology company Space42 has signed a memorandum of understanding with Microsoft and Esri.
Thanks to the cooperation of these three companies, high-resolution and scalable base maps covering all African countries will be created.
This project, called the “Map Africa Initiative,” will be the most comprehensive base mapping effort ever undertaken across the continent.
According to Space42, one of the project partners, this initiative will also create opportunities to address infrastructure, investment, and institutional gaps.
Within the scope of the cooperation, it is aimed to strengthen geospatial capabilities in Africa and the UAE, and to provide precise and accessible data to national and regional stakeholders.
In addition, this mapping project is expected to positively impact many sectors, including ports, logistics, security, disaster response, smart cities, and digital economies.
