The highest increase in cyberattacks globally occurred in Nigeria, while Africa became the most targeted region for these attacks.
According to Check Point Software Technologies’ July 2025 Global Threat Intelligence Report, institutions in Africa face an average of 3,374 cyberattacks per week.
Institutions in Nigeria, however, have experienced a frightening rise with 6,101 attacks per week. This increase corresponds to a 67% year-on-year growth, making Nigeria one of the most vulnerable countries worldwide.
Following Nigeria on the weekly list are Kenya (3,468), Angola (3,731), and South Africa (2,113).
The sectors most targeted on the continent are Telecommunications, Government, and Financial Services, respectively.
This rise highlights the uncontrolled growth of digitalization in African countries. The inadequacy of cybersecurity measures is clearly observable.
Globally, institutions suffered an average of 1,947 cyberattacks per week, marking a 5% increase compared to last year.
The Education sector was the most affected with 4,210 weekly attacks, followed by Government (2,577) and Healthcare (2,538).
The Agriculture sector experienced the sharpest increase, with a 115% year-on-year rise.
