The Democratic Republic of Congo’s Minister of Postal Services, Telecommunications, and New Information and Communication Services, Augustin Kibassa Maliba, has paid an official visit to Tunisia to strengthen digital cooperation.
During his visit, Minister Kibassa Maliba will hold a bilateral ministerial meeting with Tunisia’s Ministry of Communication Technologies.
Focus on Technopark Development in Kinshasa
As part of the visit, the minister will also engage directly with the Smart Tunisian Technoparks (S2T) ecosystem.
A key focus of the meetings will be the proposal to establish a technopark in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Given Tunisia’s role as a key technological player on the African continent, this initiative is expected to lay the foundation for technical collaboration between the two countries.
Tunisia’s Digital Leadership in Africa
With this initiative, the Democratic Republic of Congo aims to connect the country to regional innovation hubs as part of its broader digital strategy.
Tunisia stands out with an internet penetration rate of 92.8%, significantly above the global average of 70.5%. Additionally, Tunisia scores 77.2 out of 100 on the ICT Development Index.
In terms of e-governance, the United Nations’ “2024 UN E-Government Survey: The Future of Digital Government” ranks Tunisia 87th globally with an EGDI score of 0.6935, placing it third in Africa after South Africa (0.8616) and Mauritius (0.7506).
Potential Benefits for the DRC
Through this partnership, the Democratic Republic of Congo could greatly benefit from Tunisia’s expertise in digital governance, modernization of postal services, development of technological ecosystems, and entrepreneurial innovation.
