Between July 14–17, the International Conference of African Press Councils will be held in Arusha, Tanzania, bringing together participants from across the continent and around the world.
The event coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Tanzania Media Council (MCT), which has long promoted ethical journalism, provided training, and offered legal support to journalists.
More than 500 participants are expected to attend this significant gathering.
MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY TOGETHER
The exhibition section will showcase the work of various media organizations, government agencies, academic institutions, and private technology companies.
The primary goal of the conference is to equip African journalists with digital tools and regulatory frameworks to succeed in a rapidly changing information age.
MCT’S 30-YEAR IMPACT
In the past, MCT has resolved thousands of complaints through a free and voluntary self-regulation system.
The council has also advocated for media law reforms and conducted research on journalist safety and media pluralism in Tanzania.
A CLOSER LOOK AT EAST AFRICAN MEDIA
The conference will place special focus on East African media.
Discussions will explore how regional newsrooms are responding to technological developments such as mobile news tracking, digital storytelling, and real-time audience engagement.
CHALLENGES OF DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION
Like the rest of the world, African media has been affected by digital transformation.
This shift has brought about several challenges, including the spread of misinformation, declining traditional advertising revenues, and the pressure to adapt to changing audience habits.
This conference will serve as an important platform to address these issues.
INNOVATIONS SHAPING THE FUTURE
Technology experts and digital innovators participating in the event will contribute valuable insights into increasing newsroom efficiency, strengthening accuracy checks, advancing multimedia journalism, and expanding service reach.
