The Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council (EIASC) has donated more than 200 million birr worth of medicines and medical equipment to public health institutions across the country, the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday.
According to the Ministry, EIASC President Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tufa handed over the supplies to State Minister of Health Frehiwot Abebe. Frehiwot described religious institutions as “key partners in the health sector” and called on medical facilities to ensure that the donated items “are used for their intended purpose.”
The Ministry said the latest assistance was secured from the U.S.-based charity Muslim Aid America and coordinated by Ustaz Abubakar Ahmed, Chief Secretary at the EIASC President’s Office.
Hospitals benefiting from the donation
The recipient institutions include:
• Arsi University Hospital
• Pawi General Hospital
• Alamata General Hospital
• Mehal Amba Primary Hospital
• Wakeyo Health Center
Representatives from the facilities received the donated medical supplies during the handover ceremony.
Follows earlier major contribution
Wednesday’s contribution follows a previous donation announced on 29 May 2025, when the EIASC provided more than 800 million birr worth of medical supplies to five government hospitals — Jimma, Gelemso, Dessie, Wolkite and Enge. That support was delivered by U.S.-based charity Orphan in Need America and coordinated by Ustaz Abubakar Ahmed.
