CAF Champions League matches kick off today. Africa’s premier interclub competition begins its group stage fixtures, marking the start of six weeks of high-level continental football.
The opening matches will feature Al Hilal, currently based in Rwanda, against Algerian side MC Alger, while South Africa’s Sundowns will face DR Congo’s Saint-Éloi Lupopo in another key fixture.
Following the matches scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, the first week of the group stage will be completed. In this prestigious tournament, the champions will receive USD 4,000,000, while the runners-up will take home USD 2,000,000. After the six-week group phase, the competition will continue with a double-elimination system starting from the quarter-finals.
In Group A, the teams are Power Dynamos, Pyramids, Rivers United, and RS Berkane.
Group B consists of Al Ahly, AS FAR, JS Kabylie, and Young Africans.
Group C features Al Hilal, Saint-Éloi Lupopo, Sundowns, and MC Alger.
Meanwhile, Group D includes Petro de Luanda, Espérance, Simba, and Stade Malien.
