The nine teams that will participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup were determined during the group stages.
However, the best runners-up from the group stage—Nigeria, Gabon, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of Congo—still have another chance.
After playing against each other, one more team will earn the right to qualify for the World Cup.
Today, the matches Nigeria vs. Gabon and Cameroon vs. DR Congo will take place. Both games saw dramatic changes in the final moments.
The Nigerian national team had decided not to train on Tuesday due to unpaid bonuses dating back to 2019. However, team captain Troost-Ekong confirmed that the matter has been resolved with the Nigerian Football Federation, at least for now:
“The issue is resolved. We are together and focused on the upcoming matches,” he said.
In the other match, Cameroon faces three injury risks. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa will definitely not play today.
Trabzonspor goalkeeper Andre Onana has been diagnosed with an ankle injury, so it is still uncertain whether he will be able to play.
