Morocco’s senior national team reached the semi-finals at the last World Cup, while their U-20 side won the World Cup held earlier this year.
Now, the U-17 team has made history by defeating New Caledonia 16-0, recording the biggest victory in the tournament’s history. Morocco celebrated goals from 10 different players in the match.
U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Player of the Tournament Abdellah Ouazane, Oualid Ibn Salah, Abdelali Eddaoudi, Ziyad Baha, Nahel Haddani, and Ismail El Aoud each scored twice. Bilal Soukrat, Ilyas Hidaoui, and Zakari El Khalfioui added one goal apiece, while Steevy Andrew scored an own goal.
Despite the remarkable result, Morocco is having a difficult campaign. It is now confirmed that they will finish behind Japan and Portugal in their group.
The Young Atlas Lions are hoping to advance to the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams and are waiting for the final group results to determine their fate.
