The decision came during Indian President Droupadi Murmu’s historic visit to Angola — the first by an Indian head of state — where she held talks with President João Lourenço in Luanda before embarking on a follow-up visit to Botswana.
Murmu highlighted the strong energy partnership between the two countries, saying Angola continues to play a key role in meeting India’s energy needs. She said New Delhi looks forward to deeper engagement through the India-Africa Forum Summit framework.
She also welcomed Angola’s decision to join two India-led global initiatives — the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), which focuses on conserving the world’s seven major big cat species, and the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA), aimed at advancing clean energy solutions.
President Lourenço said Angola and India’s cooperation is rooted in mutual trust and a shared vision for economic progress. He urged rapid implementation of several memoranda of understanding signed during the visit, covering fisheries, aquaculture, marine resources, and consular cooperation.
Lourenço also praised India’s capabilities in healthcare, aerospace and defense technologies, saying Angola stands to benefit from stronger collaboration in those fields.
