The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has decided to part ways with national team head coach Michael Nees.
In an official statement, the federation said:
“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) wishes to inform all stakeholders and members of the public that the Executive Committee has resolved to terminate the contract of Mr. Michael Nees with immediate effect.”
According to the statement, the German coach, who took charge of the team in September 2024, failed to deliver the expected results. Under his management, Zimbabwe played 16 matches, recording only two victories, both coming against Namibia last year.
Zimbabwe finished the African FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Group C with five defeats and five draws, making them one of the most underperforming teams in the campaign.
ZIFA has not yet announced who will replace the German coach.
