Former cruiserweight and bridgerweight world champion Lawrence Okolie is set to step into the ring at a boxing event in Nigeria on December 19.
The 32-year-old boxer, who is of Nigerian descent, will be making his professional debut in Africa. However, his opponent for the event has not yet been announced.
With a career record of 22 wins, 16 knockouts, and 1 loss, Okolie shared his excitement ahead of the fight:
“This will be a historic moment for Africa, my family, and my career.There’s been a lot of talk, but let’s see who really wants to dance… Thanks to Frank [Warren], George [Warren], and Queensberry for making this possible for me.”
Another boxer of Nigerian descent, David Adeleye, will also feature on the card. Africa is steadily emerging as an important hub for boxing.
Anthony Joshua is also expected to fight in either Ghana or Nigeria at the start of next year.
