FC Pyramids, one of last season’s surprise teams, started the new season by winning a domestic cup.
In the CAF Champions League, Africa’s premier club competition, the Egyptian side defeated South Africa’s Sundowns with an aggregate score of 3-2, claiming the title.
This past weekend, last season’s standout team, Moroccan champions RS Berkane, faced FC Pyramids in the CAF Super Cup final.
RS Berkane had won the CAF Confederation Cup and dominated the Moroccan league last season. However, they lost 1-0 to FC Pyramids, with the only goal scored by İbrahim Mayele.
Thus, FC Pyramids won both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Super Cup for the first time in their history this season.
If FC Pyramids can maintain this upward trajectory, they could rival El Ahly, a club with a long history of major achievements, for many years to come. Founded in 2008, achieving such success in such a short time is truly commendable.
