The African World Cup qualifying matches have concluded, and the nine group winners who will qualify directly for the tournament have been confirmed.
Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Cape Verde, and Senegal have secured their spots among the 48 teams that will compete in the World Cup.
However, a new opportunity has emerged for the teams that finished second in their qualifying groups. The four best runners-up among the nine groups will face each other in a single-elimination play-off. Nigeria, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Gabon have earned this second chance.
These play-off matches will take place in Morocco on November 13, with Gabon vs. Nigeria and Cameroon vs. DR Congo as the semi-final fixtures. The winners of these two matches will meet in the final on November 16.
The team that wins the final will become Africa’s 10th representative at the World Cup.
