Egyptian star Mohamed Salah has become the all-time top scorer in World Cup qualifiers.
After a slow start to the season, Salah delivered a stunning performance yesterday, scoring twice to secure Egypt’s place in the World Cup.
The Liverpool legend netted his 20th goal in the qualifiers, surpassing Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, and Islam Slimani. He also became the top scorer in the current qualifying campaign, with nine goals — more than any other African player.
Salah’s performances for the national team have been consistently impressive. In 108 appearances, he has recorded 63 goals and 34 assists. He now ranks as Egypt’s second-highest scorer of all time, behind Hossam Hassan, who scored 69 goals in 176 matches.
However, Salah still has several years ahead of him, and it seems likely that he will eventually surpass Hassan’s record. In Egypt’s next international match, Salah is also set to equal Rabie Yassin’s record, becoming the country’s 10th most-capped player in history.
