Nokia and Fibertime have joined forces to improve internet access in South Africa. Through their fibre-to-the-home projects, they plan to reach an additional 400,000 households.
To implement this plan, Nokia’s advanced Lightspan access nodes, Wi-Fi 6 fibre access points, and the 7750 Wireless Access Gateway technologies will be used. This setup will enable users to maintain uninterrupted connectivity throughout their homes.
While Fibertime claims speeds of up to 950 Mbps in certain areas, its standard offering provides uncapped 100 Mbps access for a daily fee.
This project aligns perfectly with Fibertime’s broader goal of bringing fibre connectivity to two million homes as part of its mission to bridge South Africa’s digital divide. As of 2023, only 14.5% of South African households had fixed internet access.
This figure highlights how crucial this initiative is for the country’s digital future.
