Togolese midfielder Samuel Asamoah collided with pitch-side advertising boards and broke his neck during a match in the Chinese league.
His club, Guangxi Pingguo, announced that the 31-year-old player is at risk of paralysis.
Asamoah was involved in a duel with an opposing player when he was shoved and hit his head against an LED advertising board. Following the collision, medical examinations revealed multiple fractures in his neck and extensive nerve damage.
The player underwent emergency surgery, and his condition has been reported as stable. The club stated:
“Details about his recovery process will be announced following further medical examinations.”
Chongqing Tonglianglong midfielder Zhang Zhixiong, who pushed Asamoah into the advertising board, was shown a yellow card.
