Amir Khan, who has had a career many boxers envy, is now aiming to stage a boxing night in Nigeria.
Having become a world champion in his 20s, Khan was also known for appearing on television shows such as I’m a Celebrity. But the former champion is now pursuing a different goal.
Khan plans to bring professional boxing to Lagos. The event will take place on the country’s Independence Day, when the streets of Lagos will be filled with parades, music, and national pride.
The event is being organized by Khan’s AK Promotions in partnership with Africa-based Balmoral Group Promotions. After achieving success with his first show in Ghana, Khan now hopes to achieve something even bigger in Lagos.
The headline fight of the night will be between Brandon Glanton and Marcus Browne.
Khan admitted that promoting is a tough business, comparing it to playing chess. He said he sees the early years of his new career not as a chance to make money but as “rolling the dice” to learn the trade.
For now, Khan’s plan is to grow boxing in Africa and the Middle East, before returning to the UK market when the timing is right.
