The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) has signed a cooperation agreement with the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT).
This agreement is expected to shape the digital and security landscape across the continent. The partnership was formalized after the Director General of the Kenya Space Agency, Major General (Rtd) Hillary Kipkosgey, visited the NIGCOMSAT ground station in Abuja.
Under the partnership, Kenya requested access to NIGCOMSAT’s broadband capacity to accelerate digital connectivity in sectors such as education, defense, health, financial technology, and governance.
NIGCOMSAT Managing Director Jane Egerton-Idehen stated that this collaboration marks a significant step in unlocking Africa’s digital potential.
“This cooperation is not just about providing connectivity; it is about building resilient systems that protect sovereignty, enhance security, and ensure Africa secures its rightful place in the global space industry,” she said.
She further emphasized that satellite solutions under this collaboration will also promote socio-economic development.
The project is expected to generate $5.4 million in revenue over the next three years. NIGCOMSAT views Kenya’s participation as an opportunity to expand broadband coverage and strengthen Africa’s shared space ecosystem.
