The second-leg matches of the first preliminary round of Africa’s premier club competition, the CAF Champions League, are currently underway.
Following the games scheduled for today, tomorrow, and Sunday, the teams advancing to the second preliminary round will be determined.
Things are going well for some of the tournament’s favorites. Tunisian sides Espérance and Monastir secured emphatic away victories, nearly guaranteeing their spots in the next round. Espérance defeated Niger’s AS FAN 4-0, while Monastir overcame Sierra Leone’s East End Lions 4-0 in Freetown.
Nigeria’s Remo Stars also produced a convincing 4-0 win over Comoros’ Zilimadjou. Tanzania’s Young Africans defeated Wiliete 3-0, while South Africa’s Orlando Pirates beat Lioli 3-0. Angola’s strong side, Petro de Luanda, also claimed a 3-0 victory, giving them a major advantage heading into the next round.
Meanwhile, teams like Dynamos, RS Berkane, and Ahly Tripoli were unable to secure a commanding lead in their first-leg matches.
After the second-leg games this week, the second preliminary round will take place from October 17–19 and 24–26, determining which teams advance to the group stage.
