In the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, CAF Champions League winners Pyramids FC defeated New Zealand’s Auckland City 3-0.
The first goal came from Walid El Karti, who finished off a cross from Brazilian winger Ewerton.
In the 74th minute, Marwan Hamdy doubled the lead with a header from Mohamed Hamdy’s cross.
Late in the match, Mostafa Ziko stepped up and scored the decisive goal to seal the result.
The Egyptian side will face Saudi Arabia’s strong representatives Al Ahli in the next round. If they win that clash, they will move on to the following stage, and a victory there would set up a final showdown with Paris Saint-Germain.
The Pyramids–Al Ahli match will take place on September 23. Pyramids have built a strong squad this season and remain serious contenders both in the Egyptian Premier League and the CAF Champions League.
