Strive Masiyiwa, the Zimbabwean billionaire and founder of Cassava Technologies, is set to make a major investment in Africa’s artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The company, which previously contributed to the development of the first subsea fiber-optic cable connecting Africa and Australia, is led by Masiyiwa, whose fortune is estimated at nearly $1.3 billion, according to Forbes.
In April 2025, Bloomberg reported that Cassava Technologies is preparing to invest in Africa’s first artificial intelligence factory, which will be established by Nvidia Corp.
The factory will provide GPU rental opportunities to university researchers, entrepreneurs, and developers across various sectors such as healthcare, fintech, and government. Cassava Technologies is expected to invest up to $720 million in this venture.
Nvidia Corp controls 93% of the GPU market. This explains Cassava Technologies’ willingness to collaborate with Nvidia, as the company considers it the “market leader.”
Through this investment, not only will the cooperation between the two giant companies be expanded, but it will also pave the way for further investments in Africa in the coming years.
