Sunderland, newly promoted to the Premier League, has moved to pursue Leicester City’s Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu.
The 21-year-old player is estimated to be worth around £30 million.
Sunderland has already strengthened their squad with key signings such as Granit Xhaka and Habib Diarra, spending approximately £141.5 million in this transfer window.
Among newly promoted Premier League teams, Nottingham Forest set a record in the summer of 2022 by spending £142 million. Sunderland is now widely expected to surpass that record.
Although Fatawu is a highly valuable player, he missed most of the 2024-25 season due to a serious knee injury.
For this reason, Sunderland sees him as a bargain transfer, as his cost could have been much higher if not for the injury.
However, the club is acting cautiously before making an official bid, preferring to move carefully to maintain financial flexibility.
