Ajax’s Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom has joined English Championship side Ipswich Town on loan.
The 29-year-old forward was also the subject of a transfer battle between Birmingham City and Middlesbrough.
Birmingham City had almost completed the transfer and even put the player through a medical.
However, Birmingham later decided they did not want to sign him on loan and instead offered to pay a transfer fee of €6 million.
Ajax accepted this offer, but in the final stage, the player chose Ipswich instead.
If Ipswich Town win promotion to the Premier League, they will have the option to buy the player for €7 million.
Chuba Akpom was previously the Championship’s top scorer, during a spell in which he played for Middlesbrough. This achievement was one of the main reasons three clubs fiercely competed for his signature.
Akpom can play as a striker, second striker, or attacking midfielder, making him a versatile and valuable option on the pitch.
