Suleiman Obeid, considered one of Palestine’s football legends and known as the “Pele of Palestinian football,” was killed in an Israeli attack while waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip.
On Friday, UEFA shared a tribute to him on the X platform, stating,
“Farewell Suleiman el-Obeid, the ‘Palestinian Pele’. A talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times.”
However, this post received criticism.
Egyptian star Mohamed Salah responded to the tribute by asking,
“Can you tell us how, where, and why he died?”
In doing so, he expressed his disapproval of UEFA’s failure to mention the circumstances and perpetrators of the incident.
More than 61,300 people have died in Gaza as a result of Israeli military operations.
The Hamas-run health ministry stated on Saturday that at least 38 people were killed and 491 injured due to Israeli military activities in the past 24 hours.
Salah had previously called for humanitarian aid to be allowed into Gaza and urged world leaders to come together to prevent the slaughter of innocent lives during the conflict.
