Visa has established a new Regional Hub in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Through this hub, the company aims to strengthen digital payments in the region and manage its operations in Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi.
The hub was officially launched during the “Visa Day Tanzania 2025” event.
TANZANIA: THE CENTER OF REGIONAL OPERATIONS
Visa’s decision to relocate its regional operations to Tanzania is based on the country’s rising mobile and internet penetration, a dynamic small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector, and ongoing national financial inclusion efforts.
Tanzania’s strength in these areas positions it as a country with high potential to scale digital financial services and reach more individuals and businesses.
DIGITALIZATION CREATES CONVENIENCE
Visa is leveraging digitalization to provide convenience across multiple sectors.
For example, by digitizing public services and collaborating with government institutions, Visa facilitates easier payments for citizens while making government processes more transparent.
DIGITAL SOLUTIONS IN TOURISM AND AGRICULTURE
In the tourism sector, Visa offers digital solutions for services such as access to national parks and travel insurance, helping to improve the travel experience in Zanzibar and contributing to increased tourism revenue.
In agriculture, Visa aims to boost financial inclusion and income security in rural areas by developing digital payment platforms for smallholder farmers and fishers.
ADVANCED DIGITAL SECURITY
In the area of digital security, Visa uses tokenization technology that replaces sensitive payment data with secure digital identities. This helps to prevent fraud and ensures safer transactions.
Finally, with the opening of this office in Tanzania, Visa is reaffirming its long-term commitment to supporting the country’s transition to a digital economy.
