Somalia’s Police Commander, Major General Asad Osman Abdullahi, held a meeting with senior female police officers to discuss strengthening security and advancing women’s roles in the country’s security sector.

The meeting emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to promote gender inclusion within the police and military, recognizing the increasing number of women holding leadership positions across Somalia’s armed forces.
Describing the women as “courageous,” the Somali Police Force praised their commitment and growing impact on national stability. These officers have become role models for young Somali women, encouraging broader female participation in national service.
In recent years, Somalia has seen notable reforms in its security institutions, including efforts to professionalize forces and expand the role of women. Public support for female officers has increased significantly, particularly as they help restore safety in Mogadishu and surrounding areas affected by Al-Shabaab and other threats.
The meeting also reaffirmed the importance of safeguarding the rights of women in uniform and ensuring their contributions continue to shape Somalia’s peace and progress.
