Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, emphasized the importance of diplomatic dialogue as the only effective means to ease escalating tensions in the Middle East, during a phone conversation held Wednesday with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi. Abdelatty warned that without immediate political intervention, the situation risks spiraling into widespread chaos with far-reaching implications for regional stability.
Abdelatty highlighted that a comprehensive and sustainable resolution—particularly concerning Iran’s nuclear program—can only be achieved through a ceasefire followed by a return to the negotiating table. He cautioned that military escalation would further destabilize an already fragile region and urged all stakeholders to prioritize diplomacy.
The conversation also touched on the ongoing cooperation between Egypt and China. Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the steady advancement of bilateral relations, noting that ties have grown significantly in recent years across political, economic, and development sectors. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including trade, infrastructure, and regional peace efforts.
In addition to discussing bilateral progress, Abdelatty provided an overview of Egypt’s active diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and Israel. He outlined Cairo’s ongoing engagement with regional actors aimed at containing the crisis and preventing its spillover into neighboring countries. He stressed that unchecked conflict could severely compromise the security framework of the entire region.
Wang Yi voiced strong support for Egypt’s approach, emphasizing the common ground between the two nations regarding the current crisis. He praised Egypt’s role in mobilizing international consensus, particularly through a joint statement issued on June 16. The statement—endorsed by 24 Arab and Islamic nations and spearheaded by Cairo—called for an immediate ceasefire and the recommencement of talks as the only path to a durable resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue.
The exchange between Abdelatty and Wang underscored both countries’ alignment on key international matters and their joint commitment to pursuing diplomatic avenues as a means to secure long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.
