Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held a telephone conversation on Monday with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi to assess the worsening situation in the Middle East following recent clashes between Israel and Iran.
According to a statement issued by Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Araghchi briefed Attaf on the aftermath of Israel’s latest military operations. He warned that the continued attacks were destabilizing the region and posed a significant threat to broader international peace and security.
In response, Attaf expressed Algeria’s unwavering condemnation of what he referred to as Israeli aggression. He underscored Algeria’s consistent support for international legal frameworks and insisted that the United Nations Security Council must urgently shoulder its responsibility in ensuring respect for international law and the provisions of the UN Charter.
Attaf cautioned that Israel’s ongoing multi-front military campaign has dangerously intensified instability across the region, plunging it into a new cycle of violence and disorder. He stressed the importance of immediate diplomatic action from the global community to prevent a wider conflict and to reestablish a path toward peace.
The conversation between the two ministers comes amid a significant spike in hostilities that began early Friday when Israeli forces carried out widespread airstrikes targeting Iranian positions. The attacks reportedly killed senior military commanders, scientific personnel, and numerous civilians. Iran retaliated later the same day with its own missile strikes, and the exchange of fire persisted into Monday, marking one of the most serious escalations between the two countries in recent years.
