The possibility of Lookman leaving Atalanta is growing stronger by the day, while the likelihood of him staying continues to decrease.
However, it is still unclear which club the player will eventually join.
Top European clubs such as Barcelona, Juventus, Arsenal, Napoli, and Atletico Madrid have all shown interest in the Super Eagles star.
Lookman, who recently won the award for Africa’s Best Male Player of the Year, has attracted major attention on the transfer market. Napoli have reportedly set aside €50 million in hopes of signing him.
According to the Italian newspaper Corriere di Bergamo, however, Atalanta are not keen on accepting this offer.
The club is said to be demanding at least €60 million for their prized asset. Atalanta is known for its tough negotiation stance when it comes to selling players — they have a reputation for being hard sellers.
Yet there is one key factor tying their hands: Lookman’s contract will expire next summer.
Despite the player’s high quality, the club risks losing him for free if they don’t sell him during this transfer window.
This contractual situation may eventually force Atalanta to reconsider their firm stance and make concessions if the transfer saga drags on.
