President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a detailed phone discussion focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and addressing the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza amid ongoing Israeli military actions.
According to Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, the two leaders explored avenues to deepen economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Egypt and the UK. Both sides expressed commitment to expanding collaboration across various sectors, underpinned by continuous political dialogue and strategic coordination to safeguard mutual interests.
The conversation also centred on the Gaza Strip’s deteriorating situation. President El-Sisi briefed Prime Minister Starmer on Egypt’s diplomatic efforts, in partnership with Qatar and the United States, to broker a ceasefire and secure humanitarian aid delivery to the blockaded enclave. Egypt reaffirmed its firm stance against any attempts to undermine the Palestinian cause or forcibly displace Palestinians from their land.
President El-Sisi highlighted the need to translate international support for the Arab-Islamic initiative to rebuild Gaza into actionable steps once hostilities end. The UK’s positive approach to the Palestinian issue was acknowledged, reinforcing a shared commitment to coordinated regional and international engagement.
Both leaders agreed to maintain ongoing communication to address evolving developments, signalling a strengthened partnership between Cairo and London amid one of the region’s most pressing crises.
