South Africa has won the AFCON U-20 tournament, claiming the title for the first time in the country’s history.
They secured a 1-0 victory over Morocco thanks to a 70th-minute goal from Gomolemo Leviy Kekana.
As a result of this win, Morocco finished as the tournament’s runner-up.
Earlier in the day, Nigeria and Egypt faced off in the third-place match. Although Egypt took an early lead in the 3rd minute with a goal from Omar Osama Hassan Hassan, Nigeria equalized in the 47th minute through Bidemi Olalekan Amole.
With the score tied at 1-1 after regular time and extra time, the match went to penalties. Nigeria triumphed 4-1 in the shootout, defeating host nation Egypt.
This is a historic achievement for South Africa and highlights the strength of their upcoming generation.
