Remo Stars clinched the Nigeria League title with three weeks to spare.
They secured the championship after defeating Niger Tornadoes 1-0 at home. The only goal of the match was scored by Olamilekan Muhammed Adebayo in the 84th minute. Following the final whistle, celebrations erupted throughout the city.
After 35 matches, Remo Stars had recorded 21 wins, 5 draws, and 9 losses. With 68 points, they held a 10-point lead over second-placed Rivers United. Even if Remo Stars lose their remaining three matches, they will still be crowned champions.
Founded in 2004 by Kunle Soname under the name FC Dender, Remo Stars have shown consistent growth in Nigerian football over the past two decades.
Although they were relegated in 2018, they managed to return to the top flight in 2021.
This historic title is Remo Stars’ first-ever league championship. Moreover, with this achievement, they became the first club from the Southwest region to win the Nigerian top-flight title since Julius Berger in 1991.
