Experienced goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has found himself at the center of controversy after a video surfaced online, allegedly showing him discussing match-fixing with another man.
In the video, the man can be heard giving instructions to Matasi and promising him a payment if he manipulates the match. The incident has caused a major stir in the media and among football fans.
Michael Olunga’s Strong Reaction
One of those disturbed by the allegations is Kenya national team captain Michael Olunga. The Harambee Stars skipper reacted to the development with a strong statement on the X platform, even using a curse word.
He further emphasized that he would never engage in such acts, stating:
“For me, integrity is the most important thing, and I will never compromise on it.”
Kenyan Football Federation’s Response
With the video now widely circulated, Matasi is facing serious allegations. The Football Kenya Federation has launched a full investigation into the matter, and the goalkeeper is expected to face severe sanctions if found guilty.
Matasi has previously faced criticism for conceding questionable goals, both at the club level and with the national team.
His mistakes were particularly scrutinized in Kenya’s 4-1 defeat to Cameroon during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, where his errors played a significant role in the heavy loss.
