Starlink, aiming to expand further across Africa, is increasing broadband access with high internet speeds.
However, the company is still facing issues such as capacity limits, regulatory barriers in key markets, and high latency problems.
Thanks to its use of LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellites, Starlink can offer average download speeds of over 75 Mbps in countries like Botswana, Eswatini, Rwanda, and Ghana. However, in Kenya, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe, speeds remain below 50 Mbps due to capacity constraints.
Additionally, while local Points of Presence (PoPs) in regions like Kenya help reduce latency, regulatory challenges and cost differences still pose significant obstacles.
Despite these setbacks, Starlink has significantly improved fixed broadband access in markets such as Nigeria and Kenya.
If partnerships with local telecom operators can be secured, the company’s growth trajectory could rise substantially.
