Congolese forward Yoane Wissa is being targeted for a transfer by Newcastle United.
The 28-year-old striker, who scored 20 goals and provided 5 assists last season, is refusing to attend Brentford’s training sessions in an effort to force the move.
Wissa has publicly stated that he will no longer play for Brentford.
His contract is set to expire this summer, but Brentford hold a one-year extension option. However, due to Wissa’s firm stance, it is believed that the club may not activate this option.
Newcastle United are eyeing Wissa as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak, who is expected to leave the club. The Magpies are reportedly close to agreeing personal terms with the Congolese international.
Additionally, Brentford are said to have promised Wissa last season that he would be allowed to leave if a suitable offer arrived.
The biggest obstacle to the deal remains Brentford’s high asking price of £50 million.
If this issue is resolved, Wissa’s transfer to Newcastle United could be completed at any moment.
