The 2025–2026 South African football season is about to begin.
The season will officially kick off this weekend with the MTN8 quarter-finals, followed by the start of the league matches next weekend.
The opening match of the season will take place on 2 August, featuring last year’s MTN8 champions Orlando Pirates going up against Polokwane City. Later that day, Sekhukhune United will face TS Galaxy.
On Sunday, the remaining two quarter-final matches will be played. First, Stellenbosch will take on AmaZulu. Then, last season’s league champions Mamelodi Sundowns will face Richards Bay.
The first league match of the season will see Chippa United play against Sundowns.
This season, both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have strengthened their squads. The big question is: can they finally put an end to Sundowns’ dominance?
