The 12 teams that will participate in the 2026 Women’s AFCON have been confirmed.
Held in Morocco, this tournament carries significant importance for women’s football, as the four semifinalists will earn qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In this year’s edition, Nigeria won the tournament by defeating Morocco 3-2. Both of these teams will also participate in next year’s edition.
Other standout teams include Ghana, who beat Egypt 7-0 on aggregate, Algeria, who eliminated Cameroon, and Senegal, who overcame the Ivory Coast, demonstrating that they are strong contenders in the tournament.
Additionally, Zambia, Malawi, Kenya, South Africa, Burkina Faso, and Tanzania advanced by defeating their respective opponents, earning their spots in the competition.
One of the tournament’s surprise teams is Cape Verde. In the same year their men’s team qualified for the World Cup for the first time, they made history by progressing in WAFCON.
